The Tun Ismail Ali Chair (TIAC) in Monetary and Financial Economics at Universiti Malaya was established by Bank Negara Malaysia on 28 August 2000 in recognition of the significant contributions by the late Tun Ismail Mohamed Ali, the first Malaysian Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia. The Chair’s key objective is to enhance academic excellence in the area of monetary and financial economics at Universiti Malaya as well as the local academia. In line with the objective of Tun Ismail Ali Chair (TIAC), grants are allocated for research projects in the area of Monetary and Financial Economics. The TIAC research grant is open for application by academic staff currently employed at institutions of higher learning in Malaysia. The amount of funding for each eligible and approved research grant is up to RM50,000, with a maximum project duration of twelve (12) months.
The 2017 research grant recipients are:
1. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lee Hock Ann (Universiti Malaysia Sabah), "Volatility Spillovers from the U.S. Federal Reserve Balance Sheet Policy to Capital Flows in Emerging Markets". (Co-research with Dr. Hooy Chee Wooi, and Ho Yew Joe)
2. Dr. Law Siong Hook (Universiti Putra Malaysia), "Public Debt and Economic Growth in Developing Countries: Nonlinearity and Threshold".
