Abstract: This presentation provides an overview of recent research on Islamic finance. It discusses similarities and differences between Islamic and conventional banks as well as the role of Islamic finance for macroeconomic risk management. It also presents recent findings on entrepreneurs’ preferences for Islamic vs. conventional banking, using data from Turkey. Finally, it discusses Islamic finance in the broader context of non-profit maximizing financial institutions across the globe.
